Uche Jombo Responds to Criticism Over Her Lack of Support for Friend Chioma Akpotha at the 2025 AMVCA

Nollywood star Uche Jombo has responded to a social media user who criticized her for not receiving Chioma Akpotha’s award on her behalf at the 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA).

Chioma Akpotha won Best Lead Actress, beating top actresses including Bimbo Ademoye, Uche Montana, Uzoamaka Onuoha, Gbubemi Ejeye, Uzoamaka Aniunoh, and Hilda Dokubo. Since Chioma was absent, her award was accepted by Femi Adebayo and other members of the Seven Doors team.

However, an X (formerly Twitter) user faulted Uche Jombo, who was present at the ceremony, saying she should have accepted the award for her close friend and colleague instead of Femi.

The post read:

“Uche Jombo should have picked up Chioma’s award, not Femi Adebayo. But all the same, congratulations to her.”

In response, Uche calmly clarified that Femi Adebayo was Chioma’s producer and director, making him the most appropriate person to collect the award.

She wrote:

“He is her producer and director. The right person to pick it up for her.”

The actress’s response helped clarify the situation and put to rest questions surrounding her actions at the event.
