Nollywood star and award-winning filmmaker, Funke Akindele, has penned a heartfelt tribute to her late mother, Dr. Rachel Adebanjo-Akindele, in commemoration of what would have been her 71st birthday.
On Thursday, the 47-year-old actress took to Instagram to share an emotional video montage filled with cherished memories. In her touching message, she wished her mum a happy heavenly birthday and expressed deep love, longing, and gratitude.
Funke, known as Nigeria’s box-office queen, told her late mother that she is doing her best to live a meaningful life and follow her advice — especially prioritizing her well-being. She also mentioned that her siblings and their children continue to thrive and always speak lovingly about their grandmother.
“Happy heavenly birthday to my darling mother, Iya Bunmi! I’m working hard to build a life that makes you proud. I’m prioritizing my well-being, just as you advised. Funke’s mother passed away on February 7, 2023, as announced in a family statement signed by Funke’s elder sister, Olubunmi Akindele. Since then, Funke has frequently honored her mother’s memory, often describing her as a source of strength, wisdom, and inspiration.
