Singer Davido Opens Up on How Losing His Son Changed His Life

Afrobeats superstar Davido has reflected on the heartbreaking loss of his 3-year-old son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, in 2022, revealing how the tragedy transformed his outlook on life and music.

Ifeanyi tragically drowned in a swimming pool at the singer’s Banana Island home in Lagos in October 2022 — a moment that deeply shocked fans around the world.

In an interview with ABC News’ Rocsi Diaz, Davido said the painful experience forced him to step away from the spotlight, giving him time to reflect and refocus on his career and personal life.

“Stepping away after losing my son and being able to look back on my career gave me a refocus on how I wanted to move forward. It changed my life,” he shared.

Davido also opened up about how he and his wife, Chioma, found the strength to move forward — a journey that has inspired many people.

“I know how many people randomly come to me at the airport to tell me how my strength has inspired them in hard times. I was telling my wife the other day that I’m proud of how we bounced back. Now, we have twins. They are big and shouting everywhere. For us to be able to go through the loss of our son and be able to bounce back in a major way is huge,” he said.
