Dangote Group Reacts to Death of Phyna’s Sister, Ruth Otabor

The Dangote Group has expressed sorrow over the death of Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, who died from injuries sustained in a road accident involving one of the company’s trucks in Auchi, Edo State.

In a statement released on its official X account on Sunday, the company described Ruth’s passing as “deeply saddening” and extended heartfelt condolences to the Otabor family.

Ruth, a recent graduate of Auchi Polytechnic, was critically injured on August 13 when a Dangote truck ran into her, leaving her leg crushed. She later underwent an amputation as doctors fought to save her life.

According to the company, its officials and insurance partners had been with Ruth and her family since the accident, covering all medical and financial costs. Plans had even been finalized to fly her to India for advanced treatment once doctors cleared her, but she sadly passed away before the trip.

The Group wrote:

“Sadly, despite these efforts and Ruth’s brave fight to live, we lost her today.”

Dangote Group reaffirmed that safety, accountability, and compassion remain central to its operations, pledging to continue supporting victims of such tragedies. The statement concluded with prayers for Ruth’s soul, saying, “May God grant her mercy and eternal rest.”
