Nigerian Woman Cancels Wedding Three Weeks to Ceremony After Fiancé Refuses to Contribute to Expenses

A Nigerian wedding vendor, Osuchukwu Jane Ezeakolam, has revealed how a bride canceled her wedding just three weeks before the ceremony because her fiancé refused to provide financial support.

Jane explained in a Facebook post on September 17 that the bride had booked a gown, made full payment, and fixed the date. However, during the wedding week, she failed to pick up her gown, and her number was switched off.

One month later, the bride contacted Jane, explaining that she had called off the wedding because her fiancé refused to contribute to any of the expenses. According to her, he left all responsibilities to her, including payments for food, drinks, hall, cake, and decoration. Even when reminded about costs, he insisted she should handle everything herself.

The bride eventually broke down, informed her family, and decided to cancel the marriage. She revealed that her fiancé neither asked why she called it off nor showed any concern.

Surprised by the situation, Jane refunded the woman ₦80,000 for the gown, noting that most vendors had refused to return their own deposits. The bride was shocked and grateful for Jane’s honesty.

Sharing her thoughts, Jane advised women never to fund their own weddings or give money for their bride price. She stressed that while women can support their partners, they should know when “they are doing too much.”

Her post has since sparked conversations online, with many praising her integrity and others supporting her advice to young women.
