Veteran Nigerian singer and Queen of Waka music, Salawa Abeni, has shut down viral rumours claiming she has passed away.
In a video shared on Instagram, the music legend appeared cheerful as she sang briefly and confidently assured fans that she is very much alive and in perfect health.
Abeni expressed gratitude to her supporters across the world for their concern but urged everyone to ignore the false reports.
She strongly criticised the blogs spreading the fake news, describing their actions as shameful clout-chasing.
“My family, friends and fans home and abroad, thank you for your love and concern. I am alive, hale and hearty. Please disregard all the rumours,” she said. “Some blogs will do the unthinkable just to trend. It is rather shameful. The Queen is fine and doing very well. May God bless you all.”
Salawa Abeni, who made history in the 1970s as the first Yoruba female artist to sell over a million album copies, reassured her followers that she is healthy and wished them blessings in return.
