Fuji star Taye Currency became the talk of the town after his performance at the coronation of former Oyo State Governor, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, who was officially installed as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
His energetic set — a blend of modern Fuji beats and traditional Yoruba sounds — thrilled many guests and earned praise for its creativity. However, some of his lyrics stirred controversy.
At one point, the singer repeatedly used the phrase “Wehrey la fi n eo wehrey,” which translates to “Trouble is caused by trouble” or “Problems arise from problems.”
Some viewers felt the line was a subtle jab at other monarchs present, calling it inappropriate for such a solemn royal occasion. The moment quickly went viral, sparking debates online and pushing Taye Currency to the top of social media trends.
The coronation, held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan on Friday, was attended by top dignitaries including President Bola Tinubu, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and several traditional rulers such as the Sultan of Sokoto, the Oluwo of Iwo, the Soun of Ogbomoso, and the Alaafin of Oyo.
While some critics suggested that Fuji legends like Saheed Osupa or KWAM 1 would have been more fitting for the ceremony, others defended Taye Currency, applauding his ability to merge tradition with modern flair.
