Nigerian media personality, Toke Makinwa, has shared an inspiring message to women who are unmarried or yet to have children, drawing from her personal journey.
It was reported in late August that Toke welcomed her first child, a baby girl named Yakira Eliana, at the age of 40. She described this moment as the happiest time of her life, revealing that her daughter has shown her a kind of love she never knew existed.
On Instagram, the former OAP opened up about the negative comments she received from trolls over the years. She admitted that, although she rarely acknowledges negativity, society often places unnecessary pressure on women. According to her, no matter how successful a woman becomes in her career, society still measures her fulfilment by marriage and motherhood.
Toke explained that she is grateful she didn’t “settle” and instead waited for God’s perfect timing. She revealed that she kept her pregnancy private, hiding away out of fear, but leaned on God’s word: “Perfect love drowns out fear.” Despite the hurtful words, she said her spirit was never broken, and every insult only reminded God of her desires.
Encouraging women facing similar struggles, Toke advised them to drown out the noise of negativity, focus on God, and celebrate themselves at every stage of life. She emphasized that blessings come at the right time and urged women not to believe the lie that they are “running out of time.”
In her words:
“I’m thankful I did not settle. I got to be a mum when I was ready, not when society demanded it. God was not late; His timing was perfect. So, to every woman waiting — whether for marriage, children, or any dream — congratulations in advance, because your time is coming.”
Her heartfelt message has since sparked admiration on social media, with many women finding encouragement in her testimony of faith, patience, and resilience.
