ASUU Declares Two-Week Warning Strike Despite Ongoing Talks with Federal Government

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has officially announced a two-week warning strike, set to begin at midnight on Monday, October 13, 2025.

The declaration was made by ASUU’s National President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, during a press conference held on Sunday at the University of Abuja.

According to him, the union had previously issued a 14-day notice on September 28, 2025, and with no meaningful progress made to address their concerns, the strike would now commence as resolved by the National Executive Council (NEC).

“All branches of ASUU are hereby directed to withdraw their services with effect from midnight on Monday, the 13th of October, 2025.

The warning strike shall be total and comprehensive as agreed at the last NEC meeting,” Prof. Piwuna stated.

This decision comes despite ongoing negotiations between ASUU and the Federal Government, raising fresh concerns over another potential shutdown of academic activities across public universities.

Students and parents across the country are anxiously awaiting further developments as the standoff continues.
