Gov. Seyi Makinde Increases LAUTECH Security Guards’ Salaries from ₦18,800 to ₦80,000 After One of Them Complained at a Public Forum

The security guards at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in Oyo State received an unexpected breakthrough after Governor Seyi Makinde ordered a salary increase from ₦18,800 to ₦80,000.

The change came during the governor’s visit to the hospital on September 30 for an interactive session. During the event, one of the security guards boldly spoke up, lamenting their poor working conditions.

“We are suffering. I have a family with three children. Please help us,” he pleaded.

When Governor Makinde asked how much they earned, the guard replied: ₦18,800 monthly.

A hospital official explained that the guards were outsourced through a private company, which paid them only ₦18,800 out of the ₦27,000 allocated per person, leaving them without benefits or proper employment status.

Moved by their plight, the governor immediately ordered:

All 67 security guards should be absorbed as ad hoc staff of the hospital.

Their monthly salary should be increased to ₦80,000, starting October 1.

The contract with the outsourcing company should be terminated.

The decision has been widely praised as a bold act of compassion and leadership, giving the workers renewed hope and dignity.
