Tonto Dikeh Blames Bad Friends for Failed Music Career, Says She Could Have Surpassed Tiwa Savage and Whitney Houston

Nollywood actress and politician Tonto Dikeh has opened up about why her music career never succeeded, blaming negative influence from people she once called friends.

In a reflective Instagram post, the 40-year-old shared a video of herself singing Don Moen’s gospel classic “God is Good,” which took her down memory lane. She recalled her attempt at music in 2013 when she released songs like “Hi” and “Crazically Fit.”

Tonto revealed that those around her at the time pushed her into making music for the wrong reasons, and she now sees that they were bad for her growth.

She used the opportunity to caution fans about friendship choices, saying bad company can destroy destiny.

With her usual playful tone, Tonto joked that if she truly had vocal talent, she would have dominated the industry beyond stars like Tiwa Savage, Cece Winans, or even Whitney Houston.

“If I could sing ehn, una for don dey sick of me. Like you don’t even understand… who is Tiwa? Who is Whitney? Who is Cece Winans? Taaaaahhh!” she teased.

She ended her post with a strong message:

“Watching this video reminds me of the worst kind of friends who pushed me to release an album… Moral of the story — choose your friends wisely. Be wise.”

Fans reacted with mixed emotions — some laughed at her bold claims, while others praised her honesty and vulnerability.
