“This Isn’t About Taking Sides — It’s About Justice” – Nicki Minaj Speaks on Persecution of Christians in Nigeria at UN

Nicki Minaj delivered a powerful speech at the United Nations in New York on Tuesday, November 18, highlighting the persecution of Christians in Nigeria. She spoke alongside UN Ambassador Mike Waltz and thanked him and former President Donald Trump for prioritizing the issue.

Minaj, dressed in a black form-fitting dress, admitted she was nervous but emphasized the urgency of protecting religious freedom:
“In Nigeria, Christians are being targeted, driven from their homes, and killed. Churches have been burned, families have been torn apart, and entire communities live in fear constantly simply because of how they pray.”

She explained that her advocacy is not about taking sides politically but about standing against injustice:
“I want to make it clear once again, this isn’t about taking sides. This is about standing up in the face of injustice. It’s about what I’ve always stood for my entire career and I will continue to stand for that for the rest of my life.”

Nicki also praised her fanbase, “The Barbz,” saying, “Nigeria is a beautiful nation with lots of beautiful Barbz that I can't wait to see… You’ve been the ultimate light in my life and career for so long.”

She stressed the global importance of religious freedom, explaining that faith is under attack in many places and that urgent action is required to protect those exercising their right to worship.

Nicki Minaj’s powerful speech at the United Nations comes just weeks after she publicly supported a statement made by former U.S. President Donald Trump about the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

In early November, Nicki reacted to a Truth Social video where Trump warned that Christianity in Nigeria was facing an “existential threat.” He also suggested that Nigeria could soon be added to America’s list of Countries of Particular Concern.

In the video shared on November 5, Trump said:

“If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns‑a‑blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.”

Minaj reposted the statement on X (formerly Twitter), praising Trump and calling attention to the crisis.

Her UN address this week further amplified her concerns, as she emphasized that her advocacy is not political, saying:

“This is not about taking sides. This is about standing up in the face of injustice.”
