Nigerian content creator GehGeh has stirred controversy online after criticizing Afrobeats superstar Wizkid for failing to publicly acknowledge Carter Efe, the artist behind the 2022 hit tribute song “Machala”. The song, which celebrated Wizkid, reportedly received no recognition from the singer.
GehGeh called Wizkid’s silence selfish rather than a sign of humility, saying, “Carterefe dropped one of the biggest fanbase songs in the history of Afrobeats, yet Wizkid didn’t acknowledge him. That is not pride and it’s greed, he didn’t want to share his platform and glory with anybody.”
He also reminded Wizkid of his early career, highlighting that his global success was supported by his former boss, Banky W. GehGeh stated, “If Banky W had not shared his platform with Wizkid, Wizkid might not be where he is today.”
The comments have sparked a heated debate among fans about recognition, loyalty, and the responsibilities of established artists toward emerging talent.
