Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has shared her honest views on marriage, describing it as “overrated.” The 42-year-old actress said she is open to getting married again, but she is not actively searching for a husband.
Jegede made this known during a recent interview with Naija FM Lagos. According to her, while she is not against remarriage, she has learned not to pressure herself or say “never” about life decisions.
The actress explained that she believes many relationships change for the worse once the marriage label is added. She noted that some couples date happily for 10 to 15 years, but after getting married, they separate within just two or three years. In her view, marriage sometimes brings intolerance and unnecessary pressure into relationships.
Because of this, Yvonne said she feels it can be better for people to simply be with the person they love and live together, rather than rushing into marriage.
Speaking about her own experience, Jegede’s marriage to fellow actor Olakunle “Abounce” Fawole ended in 2019, less than a year after they tied the knot. She previously explained that financial imbalance and her ex-husband’s inability to respect or properly handle her were major reasons for their separation.
The actress also revealed in an earlier interview that she was the main provider in the marriage and later regretted choosing love over financial stability.
Yvonne Jegede’s comments have sparked conversations online, with many fans sharing mixed reactions to her views on marriage and relationships.
