Rivers Governor Fubara Says Defection to APC Was an “Easy Choice”

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has explained why he recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as one of the easiest decisions of his life.

Speaking with journalists on Thursday at the APC national headquarters in Abuja, Fubara said he never truly felt at home in the PDP. According to him, he was only a party member in name and had little influence or belonging during his time there.

The governor explained that throughout the internal crisis in the PDP, he stayed neutral and did not belong to any faction. He described his position in the party as someone standing “on the balcony,” not fully inside the house. He added that most of the challenges he faced during the political crisis were caused by the party itself.

Fubara said joining the APC felt natural because he has always been progressive-minded. He noted that his decision to move was also a way of showing appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and aligning with other progressives to develop Rivers State and Nigeria.

The governor assured APC members in Rivers State that his entry into the party would bring unity and clear leadership. He pledged to work with everyone to strengthen the party and drive progress in the state.

According to Fubara, his defection was not difficult at all, stressing that gratitude and appreciation are simple acts. He expressed confidence that his move to the APC marks a new direction for both his political journey and the future of Rivers State.
