Nollywood actress and producer Biodun Okeowo has expressed deep disappointment over what she described as a lack of support from her colleagues following the release of her new movie, December Party.
In an emotional video shared on her Instagram page, Biodun revealed that she has spent many years promoting movies she did not even feature in. She explained that despite not producing a film since 2013, she consistently supported other filmmakers, sometimes going as far as sending direct messages to producers to request their movies so she could help promote them.
According to the actress, the situation changed when she finally produced her own movie, as many of her colleagues failed to show the same level of support she had given them over the years. She questioned what she might have done wrong and wondered if she was being deliberately ignored.
“I have posted a lot of movies that I didn’t even feature in. Even though I have not produced any movie since 2013, I have been supporting people to the extent that I went to the DMs of producers to send their movies to me to promote. I have now produced my own movie (December Party), but no one is supporting me,” she said.
Biodun went on to express her pain, asking if she was a bad person and stating that only a handful of her colleagues supported her. She also accused some in the industry of only showing concern when something bad happens.
“What is my offence to you all? Am I that bad? Only a few of my colleagues, whom I can count, supported me. It is when bad things happen to people that you post. You are wicked,” she added.
The actress stressed that while favour may be personal, support should be intentional and rooted in collective growth, urging people in the industry to support one another while they are still alive.
“Favour is selective and personal. What I am talking about is support, which is intentional, professional, and rooted in collective growth. We are useful to ourselves alive… then let’s support ourselves while we are still living,” she stated.
Despite her frustration, Biodun expressed gratitude to those who stood by her throughout the journey. She thanked everyone who shared her work, prayed for her, and showed love and encouragement.
“To everyone I asked for support and who supported me, both within the industry and beyond it, thank you. Your encouragement, shares, prayers, and love carried this journey. I do not take any of it for granted,” she said.
She concluded by reminding fans that December Party is still trending on her YouTube channel and encouraged the public to subscribe and watch the movie.
