Bandits Attack Zamfara Chief of Staff’s Convoy, Occupants Escape Unhurt

Gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked the convoy of the Alhaji Mouktar Lugga along the Funtua–Gusau highway on Thursday, April 2, 2026.

The attack occurred around 6:16 p.m. near Kucheri village as Lugga was returning to Gusau from an official engagement. Reports indicate that the assailants emerged from both sides of the road and opened fire on the vehicle carrying the chief of staff, his driver, and two other occupants.

A bullet pierced the vehicle’s windshield, narrowly missing the driver, and another gun failed to fire at close range. Despite the ambush, the driver managed to navigate the vehicle to safety, and all passengers escaped without injury.

Authorities are expected to investigate the attack and enhance security along the highway to prevent further incidents.
