Two labourers arrested for stealing a N10 million car and threatening the owner in Ondo.

Two labourers, Aduak Effiong and Godwin Etim, have been arraigned before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Akure over alleged involvement in conspiracy, stealing, and threat to life.


The defendants appeared in court sitting in Oke-Eda, Ondo State, alongside another suspect who is currently at large. They pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge brought against them.


According to the prosecutor, Inspector Nelson Akintimehin, the incident occurred on January 24, 2026, around 6:00 p.m. at the Shoprite Roundabout in Akure.


The court was told that the accused allegedly conspired to steal a Toyota Corolla vehicle valued at N10 million, belonging to one Ojo Akinlade.


They were also accused of threatening the life of the car’s driver, Taiwo Oladele, through a phone call while demanding N100,000 for the release of the vehicle.


The prosecution stated that the offences violate relevant sections of the Criminal Code Laws of Ondo State.


Defence counsel, Toun Mary Yinusa, appealed to the court to grant bail, assuring that the defendants would not flee and would attend all court proceedings.


In his ruling, Magistrate Sunday Adedapo granted each defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with one surety each in like sum.


The case has been adjourned to May 6, 2026, for further hearing.
