The House of Representatives has summoned the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, alongside the country’s service chiefs, to appear before it over the worsening security situation in Nigeria.
Lawmakers made the decision during Tuesday’s plenary session following growing concerns about the increase in violent attacks, kidnappings, and general insecurity across several parts of the country.
The resolution came after a motion was presented by Sulaiman Gumi, who represents the Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency in Zamfara State. The motion called attention to the continued activities of bandits and terrorists who have been attacking communities, killing residents, and abducting innocent people.
In recent weeks, armed groups have intensified attacks in different regions, raising public fear and prompting calls for stronger government action. Some Nigerians have also urged President Bola Tinubu to consider a change in the leadership of the security agencies, arguing that new leadership may help improve the country’s response to insecurity.
The House of Representatives said the summons is aimed at getting clear explanations and updates on ongoing security operations, as well as finding lasting solutions to the crisis affecting citizens across the country.
