Burna Boy dethrones Tyla, reclaiming his spot as Africa's most-streamed artist on Spotify.

Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy has set a new record by becoming the African artist with the highest number of monthly listeners on Spotify.

The music star reached an impressive 46.84 million monthly listeners, surpassing the previous African record of 46.58 million held by South African singer Tyla. With the achievement, Burna Boy has reclaimed the top spot among African artists on the global streaming platform.

The remarkable increase in his streaming numbers has been largely driven by the success of "Dai Dai," his collaboration with Colombian superstar Shakira. The song serves as the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and gained worldwide attention after being performed during the tournament's opening ceremony.

Since its release, "Dai Dai" has continued to perform strongly on international music charts. The song reached No. 1 in Spain, No. 2 in France, No. 3 in Italy, No. 4 in the United Kingdom, No. 5 in Switzerland, and No. 8 in Germany, helped by its massive World Cup exposure and extensive radio airplay across Europe.

The latest milestone further strengthens Burna Boy's already successful music catalogue on Spotify. His global hit "Last Last" remains one of his biggest songs on the platform and is steadily approaching 600 million streams, making it one of the most-streamed songs by an African artist.

The achievement also comes at an exciting time for the singer, as fans eagerly await the release of his upcoming studio album and his highly anticipated "Unity Tour," which is expected to begin later this year.

Among African artists, Burna Boy currently leads the Spotify monthly listener rankings, ahead of Tems, who has 40.64 million monthly listeners. Fellow Nigerian stars Ayra Starr and Rema also remain among the continent's most-streamed artists, highlighting the continued global rise of Afrobeats.

On the global stage, Spotify's all-time peak monthly listener rankings are still led by Bruno Mars with 133.6 million listeners, followed by Justin Bieber with 128.4 million, The Weeknd with 113.9 million, Rihanna with 110.3 million, and Michael Jackson with 109.6 million.

Burna Boy's latest record further confirms his position as one of Africa's biggest music exports, as he continues to break barriers and expand the global influence of Nigerian music.
