Nigerian street-hop singer Portable has sparked widespread reactions online after declining an invitation to TikTok star Peller's upcoming wedding, insisting that someone of his status deserves a more respectful invitation than a phone call or direct message.
The controversy began after a private conversation between the two surfaced online, showing Peller personally inviting the singer to attend his wedding as one of his special guests.
In the message, Peller expressed his admiration for Portable and explained why he wanted him present on his special day.
"Omolalomi, we're specially inviting you to our wedding. We need someone like you in our wedding because you're a star," Peller wrote.
However, Portable rejected the invitation, arguing that Peller failed to show him the respect he deserved. The singer claimed he had supported Peller before he became popular, saying he was among the first people to promote the TikTok star and help increase his visibility.
Portable maintained that the proper way to invite him would have been for Peller and his fiancée to visit his home in person, present the traditional wedding attire (Aso-Ebi), and formally seek his presence at the ceremony. Describing himself as Peller's "elder brother," the singer said such a gesture would have reflected the respect he believes he has earned.
The controversial artist also pointed out that he is a professional entertainer whose appearances come at a cost. According to him, anyone expecting him to attend an event should be prepared to compensate him, especially if it conflicts with an already scheduled engagement.
Portable further revealed that he has a paid performance booked for August 1, the same day as Peller's wedding, making it impossible for him to attend without cancelling a prior commitment.
In his response, the singer also criticized the nature of the wedding, comparing it to a political rally. He alleged that the event would attract a massive crowd because Aso-Ebi was reportedly being sold to the public, joking that "both sane and insane people" would be in attendance.
The leaked conversation has since gone viral across social media, generating mixed reactions from fans and followers. While some agreed with Portable's argument that a personal visit would have been a more respectful way to extend the invitation, others criticized his response, describing it as unnecessarily harsh and dismissive.
Neither Peller nor his fiancée has publicly responded to Portable's remarks as online debate over the exchange continues.
