Popular Nigerian skit maker Akinyoola Ayoola, better known as Kamo State, has dismissed rumours claiming that his relationship with Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has fallen apart.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Yoruba, the content creator described the reports as false, insisting that he and the award-winning actress remain close despite not making public appearances together as often as before.
Kamo State revealed that Funke Akindele has always been one of his biggest inspirations, admitting that he admired her long before they ever met. He said his admiration was so great that he eventually named his daughter after the actress.
Recalling their first meeting on the set of Everybody Loves Jenifa, Kamo State said Funke's kindness and motherly treatment left a lasting impression on him, prompting him to start calling her "Mummy."
According to him, Akindele recognized his passion, talent, and dedication, which later earned him opportunities to feature in some of her productions, including Ayetoro and Behind the Scene.
Addressing the rumours, Kamo State explained that the reason fans no longer see them together frequently is simply because both of them have become busier with their individual careers. He revealed that Funke is currently focused on preparations for her major December project, while his own career has also grown significantly, resulting in more work commitments for both of them.
He added that Funke has always prayed for him to continue getting acting opportunities, stressing that their relationship has only grown stronger over time.
Kamo State urged fans to ignore the speculation, emphasizing that there is no disagreement or bad blood between them.
"We are still together, even closer. There is no fight; don't let people paint what doesn't exist," he said.
His clarification has reassured fans, many of whom welcomed the news that the long-standing relationship between the comedian and the Nollywood star remains intact despite ongoing rumours.
