The Allied People's Movement (APM) in Lagos State has thrown its weight behind Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, describing him as the most suitable candidate to lead the opposition coalition into the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement issued by the party's Lagos State Publicity Secretary, Ayodele Kazeem, the APM said Makinde possesses the leadership qualities, competence, and national appeal needed to unite the opposition and offer Nigerians a credible alternative ahead of the next general election.
According to the party, its endorsement is based on Makinde's performance in office rather than political sentiment. The APM praised the governor's record in Oyo State, highlighting achievements in road infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, security, and fiscal management.
The party also commended Makinde for what it described as prudent management of public resources, saying he has consistently demonstrated that development can be achieved through careful planning, transparency, and financial discipline rather than propaganda.
Beyond his governance record, the APM argued that Makinde has built strong political relationships across party lines and enjoys widespread respect among governors regardless of their political affiliation. It added that his ability to attract support across different regions of the country makes him a strong unifying figure.
The party further maintained that the opposition coalition must prioritize electability alongside popularity, insisting that Makinde possesses the executive experience, credibility, and temperament required to build a national alliance capable of challenging for power in 2027.
Concluding its statement, the APM described the Oyo State governor as a representative of a new generation of leadership, noting that his experience in both the private and public sectors, coupled with his accessibility and willingness to make difficult decisions, makes him the ideal candidate to fly the coalition's presidential flag.
