Man Arrested After Allegedly Setting Wife on F!re During Domestic Dispute in Kogi

A domestic dispute in Lokoja, Kogi State, has left a woman injured after her husband, identified as Jacob Irewa, allegedly set her on fire with petrol.


The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Oworo Estate, Felele, following an argument between the couple.


According to the police, the disagreement started after the woman reportedly burned some of her husband’s clothes without his permission because she believed he was no longer using them.


The argument allegedly escalated when Irewa threatened his wife, obtained petrol from his motorcycle and used it to set her ablaze.


The B Division Surveillance Team in Felele reportedly received information about the incident at about 8:30 p.m. and immediately mobilised to the scene, where officers arrested the suspect.



Police spokesperson ASP Salisu Afusat confirmed the incident, stating that preliminary investigations indicated that the attack followed the domestic disagreement over the burnt clothes.


Despite the attack, the victim survived and was rushed to Honey Gold Hospital in Felele, where she is currently receiving medical treatment.


The police further disclosed that Irewa allegedly admitted to setting his wife on fire during questioning.


Authorities said a comprehensive investigation has commenced to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and gather additional evidence. The suspect remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
