The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has pledged his support for the Iru Ekun Security Network, donating ₦100 million and a brand-new Toyota Hilux to strengthen the group's operations across Yorubaland.
The monarch made the announcement on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, during a courtesy visit to the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife by Yoruba Nation advocate Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, alongside representatives of the security outfit.
According to a statement released by the Ooni’s media office, Oba Ogunwusi described the Iru Ekun Security Network as a timely initiative established to address the growing security challenges facing Yoruba communities. He said the outfit would complement existing security agencies in safeguarding lives and property across the South-West.
The Ooni also commended Sunday Igboho for his courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the welfare of the Yoruba people, describing him as a patriotic leader whose efforts to improve community security deserve support.
He emphasized that protecting lives and maintaining peace is a shared responsibility that goes beyond politics, religion, or ideology, urging traditional rulers, business leaders, professionals, and Yoruba people worldwide to rally behind the security initiative.
Oba Ogunwusi further stressed that lasting development can only be achieved in a peaceful and secure environment, calling on all stakeholders to work together in preserving unity and stability across Yorubaland.
The Iru Ekun Security Network, founded by Sunday Igboho, was established to tackle security concerns in Yoruba-speaking communities and strengthen grassroots efforts to protect lives and property throughout the region.
