Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has broken her silence following the backlash she received over her birthday post, which came amid the mourning of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
The movie star, who recently celebrated her 49th birthday, had shared glamorous photos of herself on social media alongside a brief prayer to God. However, the timing of the post sparked criticism from some social media users, who felt that the celebration was insensitive given the widespread grief over Taiwo Hassan’s death.
Following the reactions, Funke Akindele has now responded by expressing appreciation to those who celebrated her and showed her love on her special day.
In a subsequent social media post, the actress thanked her fans, colleagues and well-wishers for their prayers, messages, phone calls and support, saying she genuinely felt the love they showed her.
She wrote: “I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for every prayer, every message, every call and all the love you showed me. I felt it all, and I truly appreciate you.”
Funke also prayed for God to bless her supporters and give them beautiful reasons to celebrate, while appreciating them for making her birthday special.
Her latest message comes after her initial birthday post generated mixed reactions online, particularly because it was shared at a time when members of the Yoruba entertainment industry and fans were mourning the passing of Taiwo Hassan.
