Cristiano Ronaldo Fined £215 and Handed 30-Day Ban After Portugal Walk-Out Controversy

Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly been fined £215 and handed a 30-day ban by Portuguese football authorities following his controversial walk-out last month.

Despite the disciplinary action, the 41-year-old forward is expected to be available for Portugal’s next fixture against Denmark on November 14, as the suspension has reportedly been backdated to September 30.

According to reports from Portugal, the backdated punishment means Ronaldo will have completed his 30-day ban before the national team’s next match, allowing him to return to action without missing the fixture.

The fine is relatively small compared with Ronaldo’s enormous earnings at Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr. With reports putting his daily salary at approximately £488,000, the football icon could reportedly earn back the £215 fine in around 38 seconds.

The controversy threatened to create a major distraction for Portugal, raising questions about Ronaldo’s future with the national team and the authority of manager Jorge Jesus.

The situation reportedly began after Ronaldo was left on the bench during Portugal’s Nations League victory over Norway on September 27, despite having warmed up for the match. It was reportedly the first time in his 18-year international career that he had been an unused substitute.

Ronaldo was said to have been furious over the decision, with the subsequent walk-out sparking speculation about a possible end to his international career.

However, with the suspension reportedly set to expire before Portugal’s November fixture, the development could allow the veteran forward to return to the national team as preparations continue.

The reported disciplinary measures bring a new development to a controversy that had threatened to overshadow Portugal’s international campaign.
