JAMB Warns Candidates Against Accepting Admission Outside CAPS

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned prospective university and other tertiary institution students against accepting admission offers outside its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), cautioning that such offers may not be recognised as valid.

The examination body issued the warning on Monday, October 12, 2026, in a post shared across its official social media platforms. It urged candidates to verify their admission status on CAPS before accepting any admission offer.

According to JAMB, admissions offered by institutions outside its approved admission process may not be considered valid, potentially creating complications for candidates throughout their academic journey.

The board explained that accepting an admission offer that has not been properly processed through the approved system could affect candidates’ admission records and other related academic procedures.

“An admission offered by an institution outside the approved JAMB admission process may not be recognised as valid,” the board stated.

It added that accepting such an offer could put a candidate’s academic future at risk and lead to difficulties with admission documentation and other necessary processes.

JAMB issued the warning while promoting an episode of its JAMB Explained series, which focuses on explaining what constitutes an illegal admission, the possible consequences and the steps candidates can take to protect themselves.

The board encouraged prospective students to make admission verification a priority and ensure that their offers are reflected on CAPS before proceeding.

Emphasising the importance of following the approved admission procedure, JAMB advised candidates to verify their admission status before accepting any offer.

“Your admission journey deserves the right foundation. Verify before you accept,” the board added.

The warning serves as a reminder to candidates to exercise caution when receiving admission offers and to confirm their authenticity through the official JAMB system to avoid potential academic and administrative complications.
