Peter Obi Vows to Lead Rescue Missions Into Forests if Elected President in 2027

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has pledged to tackle kidnapping and insecurity across Nigeria, saying he would personally lead rescue missions into forests if elected president in 2027.

Obi made the promise while addressing supporters at a campaign rally in Bayelsa State, where he assured Nigerians that his administration would prioritise security and make it safe for citizens to travel on the country's roads without fear of being attacked or kidnapped.

The former Anambra State governor also stressed the need to unite the country, promising to build a Nigeria where no region or group feels excluded from national development.

Speaking at the rally, Obi declared that his administration would work towards making the country safe and habitable for everyone.

“We will make Nigeria work. We will make Nigeria a place where people will live. We will secure Nigeria. Nobody will live in Nigeria where you can’t travel on the road again,” he said.

Obi further highlighted the security challenges facing Nigerian highways, drawing from his recent road trips across several states to emphasise the need for urgent action.

He explained that he had travelled by road from Enugu to Bayelsa and had also visited Lokoja, Akwanga and Ebonyi within a few days.

“I came to Bayelsa this morning from Enugu by road; I moved around Nigeria by road. On Tuesday, I was in Lokoja; on Wednesday, I was in Akwanga; yesterday, I was in Ebonyi, and today I am in Bayelsa. Our roads must be secured,” he said.

The NDC candidate's remarks placed security, national unity and freedom of movement at the centre of his campaign message, as he outlined his proposed approach to addressing kidnapping and insecurity ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
