Social Media Users React to Food and Drinks Served at Late Taiwo Hassan’s 40-Day Celebration

Social media users have taken to the internet to share mixed reactions after a video from the 40-day celebration of late Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan surfaced online.

The veteran actor's family recently held a grand final burial celebration in his honour, which was attended by several of his colleagues, friends, family members and prominent personalities.

A video from the ceremony has since gone viral, showing the wide variety of food, drinks and other refreshments served to guests during the event.

While some social media users questioned the decision to serve such a large quantity of food and drinks at a burial ceremony, others defended the family, describing the gathering as a celebration of the actor’s life and legacy.

One user identified as Farouk questioned the practice, writing: “Omo, I find this very weird sha. Why are they serving food? If they are giving to the less privileged, that’s understandable. It’s well.”

Another user, Delusional Optimist, suggested that the event may have been sponsored by a politician, writing: “Na politician sponsor am, na why.”

Similarly, Just Design criticised the scale of the ceremony, commenting: “The gluttons in this video were patiently waiting for this man to die. How can the family be so reckless?”

However, some commenters viewed the elaborate celebration differently.

Tijani Adekunle described the event as “a big sign of honour and greatness of the deceased,” while Shupo simply noted, “They don’t do it twice.”

Another commenter, Temi, felt the celebration was not excessive, writing: “It’s not too much.”

Akorede reacted emotionally to the video, saying: “Omor this life no just die o.”

Meanwhile, Chloro King reflected on the emotional impact of the actor’s death, writing: “Person wey tears almost finish for people eyes last month. Na person wey die him own end.”

Other users defended the family's decision to hold an elaborate final celebration.

The Depeju wrote: “It’s the final burial, so it’s not too much.”

Similarly, Oluwafemi described the occasion as a celebration of life, noting that the actor left behind children and grandchildren.

He wrote: “It’s still a celebration of life. He left children and grandchildren behind, so it’s not too much.”

The reactions have highlighted the different perspectives surrounding elaborate burial ceremonies, with some users questioning the scale of such events while others believe they are a way for families to honour and celebrate the lives of their loved ones.
