Nigeria’s Super Falcons have received the naira equivalent of the $100,000 cash reward promised by President Bola Tinubu following their victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The National Sports Commission confirmed the payment on Tuesday, stating that the players had received the financial reward announced by the President after their historic triumph.
According to a statement dated Monday, November 2, 2026, the coaches and other members of the team’s technical and administrative officials also received the naira equivalent of $50,000 each.
President Tinubu had announced the reward package during a presidential reception held on July 28, 2025, after the Super Falcons staged a remarkable comeback to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 in the final in Rabat.
Nigeria had gone two goals behind before fighting back to secure victory and claim a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
Apart from the cash reward, the players had earlier received title documents for three-bedroom apartments in Abuja, as well as certificates confirming their conferment of the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
However, the cash component of the reward had remained outstanding until the latest confirmation by the National Sports Commission.
Reacting to the development, the commission’s chairman, Shehu Dikko, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for fulfilling his promise to the victorious team.
In the statement, Dikko said, “The Super Falcons made Nigeria proud, and Mr President has honoured his commitment to them in full.”
He further noted that several Nigerian sports personalities had experienced prolonged delays in receiving rewards promised to them for their achievements, describing the payment as an important step towards honouring the country's sporting heroes.
The commission also credited the Ministries of Finance, Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, and Housing and Urban Development for their roles in ensuring that the promised rewards were delivered.
The development brings an end to the wait for the cash component of the presidential reward package and fulfils the financial commitment made to the Super Falcons following their historic WAFCON victory.
