The deaths of several well-known celebrities in 2022 have left the entertainment industry in mourning and fans in disbelief.
The entertainment industry witnessed several deaths, ranging from actors to singers to reality TV stars, causing grief among families who lost loved ones and fans.
SOLA ONAYIGA:
Sola Awojobi Onayiga, a veteran Nollywood actress, died on July 18. The actress was well-known for her role as Ireti in the family drama Fuji House of Commotion.
BIYI BANDELE:
Biyi Bandele, a Nigerian director of Half of a Yellow Sun, and co-director of the Nigerian series Blood Sisters, died on August 17, 2022.
LARI WILLIAMS:
Lari Williams, the founding National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, passed away on February 27, 2022, at the age of 81, following a short illness.
OSINACHI NWACHUKWU:
Osinachi Nwachukwu, a gospel singer, died on Friday, April 8, 2022, at the age of 42. Nwachukwu collaborated with another singer, Prospa Ochimana, on the song Ekwueme, which uplifted both of them to fame in 2017.
ADA AMEH:
Ada Ameh died in the NNPC hospital in Warri, Delta State, on July 17, 2022. Her age was 48. She is popular for her Emuakpo character in the TV series, 'The Johnsons'.
She was laid to rest in her father's compound in their hometown of Otukpo, Benue State, on Friday, August 26, 2022.
TAFA OLOYEDE:
On February 1, Yoruba actor John Adewuni (popularly known as Tafa Oloyede) passed away in his home in Osogbo at the age of 69.
On February 11, the late actor's body was laid to rest in his hometown of Ede, Osun.
LEO MEZIE:
Leonard Chimezie Onyemachi, popularly known as Leo Mezie in Nollywood, ended up dead on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the age of 46, after a battle with kidney disease.
PETERU:
Tobi Owomoyela, a rising Nigerian comedian known as Peteru, who is well-known in comedy circles for his unique delivery in mimicking people, among other talents, is said to have died on Wednesday, December 21, 2022.
CHINEDU BERNARD:
Chinedu Bernard, a Nollywood actress, collapsed and passed away in Enugu on April 29, 2022. Doctors declared her dead at Enugu State's East Side Hospital.
CHINEDU NWADIKE:
Chinedu Nwadike, gospel singer and Nollywood actor, passed away in 2022. On May 24, he was laid to rest after a song service at the Living Faith Church in Owerri, Imo state.
ROMANUS AMUTA:
Romanus Amuta, better known as 'Natty' in the popular soap opera "New Masquerade", passed away on February 9, 2022, at the age of 79, following a long illness.
SAMMIE OKPOSO:
Sammie Okposo passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, November 25, 2022. He was 51 years old. On Tuesday, December 13, a tribute night was held in Lagos State, followed by a song service on Wednesday.
RICO SWAVEY:
Patrick Fakoya, also known as Rico Swavey, a former Big brother Naija season 3 housemate, was involved in a car accident and was placed on life support. He died on Thursday, October 13, 2022, two days after the accident.
YINKA OGUNDAISI:
Yinka Ogundaisi, a veteran actor, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Lagos.
On the same day, the Village Headmaster actor was buried in Ibadan.
IFEANYI ADELEKE:
On October 31, 2022, Davido and his fiancée, Chioma, lost their only son
The incident occurred when the three-year-old child drowned inside a swimming pool at the family's Banana Island apartment.
