FG Files 20 Charges Against Former CBN Governor Emefiele

The Federal Government has taken a decisive legal step by lodging a total of 20-count charges against the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele. This significant development unfolded at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja.

The revelation was made by Mohammed Abubakar, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) at the Federal Ministry of Justice. This announcement came after a session at the Federal High Court held in Lagos.

Additionally, the Federal Government has also made a move to withdraw a charge related to the illegal possession of firearms that it had previously filed against the suspended CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele. This application for withdrawal was brought before the Federal High Court in Lagos.

Previously, on July 25, the judge granted Emefiele bail amounting to N20 million on a two-count charge pertaining to the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. The judge also ordered his temporary remand at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre until his bail conditions were met. This development marks a significant turn of events in the legal proceedings against the former CBN governor.
