Naira Marley and Sam Larry Demand N40m, Sue Magistrate and Police for Unjust Detention

Singer Azeez Fashola, widely known as Naira Marley, and socialite Samson Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, have taken legal action to challenge what they perceive as their "continued detention" in connection with the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, alias Mohbad.

Their lawsuit, filed before the Federal High Court in Lagos by their lawyer, Mr. Olalekan Ojo (SAN), demands N20 million in damages from the police and Lagos magistrate, Adeola Olatunbosun. They argue that the remand order issued by the magistrate for their custody had expired, and they are seeking the court's order for their immediate release.

To provide context, on October 4, a Magistrate in Yaba had ordered the 21-day remand of Naira Marley and Sam Larry in police custody in connection with the death of Mohbad, who passed away on September 12. However, the 21-day period granted by Chief Magistrate Olatunbosun had already elapsed on October 26, 2023, and it had not been renewed.

In their affidavits, deponents stated that their ordeal began when they were arrested by the police on October 3 and 4, 2023, based on alleged connections to the death of Mohbad, and they argue that the continued detention is unjustified.
