Damian Okoligwe, a 400L Petrochemical Engineering student at the University of Port Harcourt, finds himself entangled in a legal web as he faces accusations of murdering his alleged girlfriend, Justina Otuene, a 200L Biochemistry student. The incident, shrouded in mystery, reportedly took place several weeks ago.

The unfolding drama played out at the Magistrate court in Port Harcourt, where Damian stood trial for the grave offense of murder. During the proceedings on Monday, the prosecution, with a firm stance, requested the court to remand Damian in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS). This plea went unopposed by Damian's defense counsel.

The legal stage intensified as the prosecution additionally sought to send the case file to the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for future advice. This move, signaling a meticulous approach to the legal process, was granted without resistance from the defense.

Magistrate Obiageri Anugbum, presiding over the case, delivered a weighty ruling, expressing the seriousness of the allegations. Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, she ordered Damian's remand in prison custody. Simultaneously, she directed the case file to be transferred to the DPP's office for further scrutiny.

The unfolding narrative in this legal saga reveals a troubled relationship between Damian and Justina, with the former accused not only of murder but also of dismembering his alleged lover. The court has set the stage for the next chapter in this harrowing tale, scheduling the next hearing for December 15, 2023, where legal advice will be sought. The accused student's fate hangs in the balance as the justice system moves forward in its quest for truth and accountability.
