Mr. Ibu's Son, Daughter Caught In Scandal, N50 Million Recovered From Donations For Ailing Actor

The Nigerian Police, operating through its Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCID) in Lagos State, has announced the arrest of Oyeabuchi Daniel Okafor and Jasmine Chioma Okekeagwu. The duo is accused of conspiring to defraud popular actor Mr. John Ikechukwu Okafor, widely known as Mr. Ibu, of the sum of N55 million.

According to a press release from the FCID on Thursday, the arrest follows a petition filed by Diamond Waves Law on behalf of Mr. Ibu's wife, Stella Maris Chinyere Okafor. The petition alleges that Mr. Ibu's sons, Onyeabuchi Daniel Okafor and Valentine Okafor, along with adopted daughter Jasmine Chioma Okekeagwu, conspired to defraud the actor while he was on a sickbed.

The investigation revealed that, in an effort to cover medical bills, Mr. Ibu initiated a public fundraising campaign that attracted donations from fans and well-wishers. The FCID spokesperson, ASP Mayegun Aminat, explained that the accused duo manipulated Mrs. Stella Maris Chinyere Okafor, took control of Mr. Ibu's phone, and gained access to his banking details.

The suspects allegedly reinstalled the banking app on Onyeabuchi Daniel Okafor's phone and transferred N55 million from the donations intended for Mr. Ibu's medical bills. Further investigations uncovered text messages via WhatsApp detailing the duo's criminal plans. The police revealed that the two had a sham marriage at the Ikoyi registry and had applied for visas to leave the country, intending to settle in the UK with their ill-gotten gains.

The suspects were arrested prior to executing their plan, and the police are pursuing further investigation into the alleged fraud.
