Bishop Feyi Daniels Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Rape and Sexual Assault.

In a landmark verdict, the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has sentenced Lagos bishop Oluwafeyiropo Daniels to life imprisonment for the rape of his 23-year-old assistant. The Bishop of I Reign Christian Ministry, Lagos, was also sentenced to three years in prison for sexually assaulting a 19-year-old church member.

Justice Rahman Oshodi, presiding over the case, ordered that Daniels serve the remainder of his life sentence at the Kirikiri custodial facility in Lagos. The judge emphasized that the prosecution successfully established the elements of the two offenses, branding Daniels as untruthful and lacking regard for truth.

While the bishop was acquitted on count two, involving the rape of another church member, the judge noted that there was an element of consent. Additionally, Daniels was discharged on count four, related to the attempted rape of another church member.

The charges, bordering on rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault, were brought under Section 260 (2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. The court's decision marks a significant step in addressing sexual offenses and ensuring justice for survivors.
