Federal Government Plans to Expand Cash Transfer Program to Alleviate Poverty, Affecting 12 Million Households

The Federal Government has announced its intention to resume direct cash transfers to Nigeria's poorest and most vulnerable citizens. Currently, around three million people benefit from these programs, but due to the rising cost of living, the government anticipates that an additional 12 million households may qualify for assistance.

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun, unveiled this initiative during the Ministry's retreat in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State. According to Edun, the presidential panel on social investment programs has recommended restarting direct payments to the needy to mitigate the economic hardships faced by many.

Edun emphasized that the expansion of cash transfers aims to assist a broader segment of the population struggling with economic challenges. The government aims to ensure that more funds are directly accessible to those in need, empowering them to address their urgent needs and reduce poverty.

To facilitate efficient and transparent payments, Edun highlighted the use of technology to avoid manual processes and delays.

Stay tuned for further updates on this significant development aimed at supporting vulnerable households across Nigeria.
