Yoruba veteran actress Iya Osogbo announces retirement after near mishap with fan.

Yoruba acting legend, Madam Grace Owoola Oyin-Adejobi, popularly known as Iya Osogbo, has made a resolute decision to retire from acting, citing a recent incident with an overenthusiastic fan as a contributing factor. The actress recounted how the fan's vehicle nearly caused her to fall into a gutter while she was on her way to visit one of her children's offices in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Despite the alarming encounter, the fan approached Iya Osogbo to express admiration and handed her N10,000 in cash. These revelations came during an appearance on the radio show "Parrot Xtra Hour on Radio," hosted by Olayinka Agboola in Ibadan.

Reflecting on her illustrious career spanning 67 years, Iya Osogbo revealed that she had established her name long before her role in the film "Eran Iya Osogbo." She highlighted the societal stigma attached to acting in her earlier years, particularly for women, as it was seen as an unserious profession.

The actress also shared insights into her personal life, including her marriage to the late Yoruba actor Chief Oyin Adejobi, whom she met in school. She described his independent career path and the challenges she faced, including the loss of her fourth child, as significant lows in her life.

As she approaches her 90th birthday, Iya Osogbo announced that there would be no formal celebration to mark the occasion. Despite her decision to retire, her legacy in Yoruba cinema, with notable roles in productions like "Orogun Adedigba," "Kuye," and "Kootu Ashipa," will continue to resonate in the industry.
