In a remarkable display of support and solidarity, prominent figures including Adekunle Gold, Nigeria’s Consul-General in New York City Ambassador Peter Egopija, and activist Omoyele Sowore have paid a surprise visit to Tunde Onakoya, who is engaged in an intense chess marathon in New York City's Times Square. Onakoya, aiming to play for 58 hours straight without defeat, has garnered significant attention and backing, both locally and globally. The Lagos state Governor has openly encouraged him to persevere, urging him to keep the flag flying high.

Notably, Nigerians from around the world have contributed as much as $26,000 to support Onakoya's endeavor. Providing updates on his progress via social media, Onakoya expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, stating, "It’s looking possible now. Keep streaming, keep donating."

The marathon, which commenced on Wednesday, April 17, at 10 am, is scheduled to conclude on April 19 at 8 pm. With Onakoya already surpassing the halfway mark, the anticipation for a potential new Guinness World Record is palpable. The current record, held by Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad of Norway, stands at 56 hours, 9 minutes, and 37 seconds, set on November 11, 2018.
