Ooni of Ife Denounces Alleged Son, Launches Police Probe

A viral video surfaced earlier this week, featuring a man adorned in traditional regalia, who boldly claimed to be the biological son of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi. In the video, the individual, whose identity remains undisclosed, not only asserted his lineage but also issued a direct challenge to the monarch, threatening consequences if his demand for recognition wasn't met within 60 days. The shocking footage sparked widespread discussion and speculation across various online platforms.

In response to the controversy, the palace spokesperson, Moses Olafare, released a statement on Thursday, May 9, addressing the matter. Olafare categorically refuted the claims made by the individual in the video, stating that the man had been reported to security agencies for engaging in impersonation. The statement emphasized the Ooni's responsible fatherhood and commitment to tradition, affirming that he acknowledges all his children and takes full responsibility for them.

Furthermore, the palace provided clarification regarding the true lineage of the Ooni's children. It listed the names and whereabouts of each child, dispelling any doubts about their identities. The statement condemned the impersonation as both sacrilegious and criminal, emphasizing the sanctity of the royal heritage and vowing to pursue legal action against the perpetrator.

The palace urged law enforcement agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services, to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure swift justice. Additionally, it called upon anyone with information about the impersonator to come forward and assist in the investigation.

In conclusion, the statement reiterated the palace's commitment to preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba people and its determination to thwart any attempts to undermine or tarnish its legacy through fraudulent means.
