Nollywood actress Chioma Akpotha and other fans have expressed frustration with Netflix over its handling of the promotion for Femi Adebayo’s highly anticipated movie, Seven Doors.
Femi Adebayo, the producer of Jagun Jagun, had been building excitement for his upcoming Netflix project by releasing a series of short teasers on his Instagram page. His creative promotional strategy had fans eagerly awaiting each reveal, as he symbolically unveiled “doors” leading to the film’s plot.
However, tensions rose when Netflix unexpectedly released the full trailer for the movie on its official Instagram page before the producer completed his promotional rollout. This move angered many, who felt it undermined Adebayo’s efforts and disrupted the carefully planned buildup of anticipation.
Chioma Akpotha was among those who voiced their displeasure, criticizing Netflix’s lack of coordination. She commented:
“@naijaonnetflix Guys, like WTH! Do you not know what timing is? 😡 @femiadebayosalami had set the ball rolling by dropping teasers!!! People were already anticipating, only for it to be messed up by the full trailer release here… JUST LIKE THAT?! Do you not know what being strategic is? Kai.”
Fans also joined the outcry, with some sharing their disappointment in Netflix’s actions:
@kollatunez: “Netflix didn’t even chill for Femi to open the fifth door on his page.”
@nollywoodcitadel: “Wetin happen... Femi Adebayo never finish opening the 7 doors (teasers) on his Instagram page, but Netflix don upload full thriller.”
@hyrishtheebigdeal: “At least una for align with the producer’s promotion tactics na.”
The backlash highlights the importance of collaboration and timing in film promotion, especially when a producer has built a unique marketing strategy. Fans are now hoping that the incident won’t overshadow the success of Seven Doors, which has already generated significant buzz.
