Eniola Ajao Opens Up About Struggles with Fake News and Emotional Toll on Mental Health

Popular Yoruba actress and filmmaker Eniola Ajao has revealed the emotional distress she endured due to fake news and online rumors, which nearly drove her to self-harm.

In a candid interview on Nollywood on Radio, Ajao shared how social media lies deeply affected her mental health, causing a personal crisis. She recalled how the false stories led her to a dark place, to the point where she almost poisoned herself. "I almost poisoned myself because of news about me on social media that was far from true," Ajao admitted. "It was the first time in my life I faced something so painful that I couldn’t eat for seven days. I didn’t go anywhere. People around me can testify to it."

The actress, known for her roles in Nollywood, explained how the rumors left her unable to eat or engage in any social activities for an entire week. Her family, especially her sisters, intervened, urging her to stay strong. "My sisters were calling, telling me, ‘You have to do this for yourself. You don’t have to poison yourself,’” she said. Ajao also mentioned how her son reached out to others, sharing that she was struggling with the lies circulating online.

The controversy began after Ajao crowned the controversial crossdresser, Bobrisky, as the best-dressed female at her movie premiere, which sparked intense backlash. Ajao later clarified that it was a publicity strategy for her film.

In an Instagram post, Ajao shared a picture of herself looking dejected but thankful for God's guidance. She wrote, "Been through a lot, but thank God for His faithfulness." Despite the difficulties, she remains grateful for the strength to overcome such tough moments.
