Nollywood star Funke Akindele has shattered box office records with her latest movie, Everybody Loves Jenifa, which has become the highest-grossing Nollywood film for an opening weekend, earning an impressive N206 million.
This groundbreaking success surpasses her previous film, A Tribe Called Judah, which had an opening weekend of N113 million last year. The film also holds the record for the biggest one-day performance in 2024, earning N87.8 million on a single day, and claimed the title of the highest-grossing opening day for a Nollywood movie, pulling in N45.2 million when it premiered on December 13.
Currently showing in cinemas nationwide, Everybody Loves Jenifa tells the story of Jenifa, a beloved figure in her community. However, her reign is challenged when Lobster, a charming new neighbor portrayed by Stan Nze, moves into the estate. Lobster, who also runs an NGO like Jenifa, uses his organization as a front to swindle unsuspecting humanitarian groups. The movie explores themes of rivalry, deception, and community dynamics.
