Michelle Trachtenberg, the actress best known for her roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl, has passed away at the age of 39.
According to reports from the New York Post, Trachtenberg was found by her mother around 8 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26, at One Columbus Place, a luxury apartment complex in Manhattan’s Central Park South neighborhood. Sources revealed that the actress had recently undergone a liver transplant, but the exact cause of her death has not been confirmed.
Born on October 11, 1985, in New York, Trachtenberg began acting at a young age. She started her career in commercials at just three years old before landing a role on Nickelodeon’s The Adventures of Pete & Pete in the mid-1990s. At age 10, she gained widespread recognition for her starring role in Harriet the Spy (1996), where she played the young detective alongside Rosie O’Donnell and J. Smith-Cameron.
Her major breakthrough came when she joined Buffy the Vampire Slayer in its fifth season as Dawn Summers, the younger sister of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Buffy. She remained on the show until its final season in 2003.
Trachtenberg further cemented her place in pop culture with her role as Georgina Sparks, a manipulative and cunning character in Gossip Girl, which aired from 2007 to 2012. She also appeared in several films, including the teen comedy Eurotrip (2004), known for the viral hit "Scotty Doesn’t Know," and Ice Princess (2005).
Her sudden passing has shocked fans and the entertainment industry, with many mourning the loss of the talented actress.
