Renowned Yoruba actor Muyideen Oladapo, popularly known as Lala Dapo, has opened up about his journey, struggles, and educational pursuits in a heartfelt interview with actress Biola Adebayo on Talk to B.
Commitment to Education
During the interview, Lala Dapo revealed that in 1998, he decided to further his education despite his busy acting career. He recalled calling his friend, Lukman, to help him hire a private teacher who would come to his house to teach him the secondary school syllabus. He planned to start from JSS 1, progress to JSS 2, and continue learning at home at his own pace.
Saheed Osupa’s Wisdom
Speaking about his colleague, Saheed Osupa, the actor praised his intelligence, saying that while many are just beginning to recognize Osupa’s wisdom, he has always been a knowledgeable person. He described him as honest and straightforward, dismissing any claims that Osupa is cunning.
Fond Memories and Family Struggles
Reflecting on his childhood, Lala Dapo shared emotional memories about his late mother, who was an “okro seller”. He expressed how much he misses her, especially on May 11, which marks a painful memory for him. However, he prayed for her soul to rest in peace.
He also revealed that when he was in Primary Six, his parents struggled financially and could not afford to further his education. Determined to continue learning, he took on various farming jobs to save money and buy the Common Entrance Form to proceed to secondary school.
Respect for Actor Funsho Adeolu
The actor made it clear that he holds his senior colleague, Funsho Adeolu, in high regard and would never allow any of his friends to disrespect him.
Strong Bonds and Generosity
Lala Dapo disclosed that he and fellow actor Lokman Raji are cousins. He also stated that many people he has supported in the past have not been able to reciprocate his kindness, but he remains proud of the role he played in their lives.
Relationship with Singer Asake
Closing his interview, he revealed that popular singer Asake is his brother, though he did not provide further details.
