"I Invited My Girlfriend to the Cinema to Watch Me, Only to Find Out They Removed My Face from the Movie" – Actor Kunle Afod Reveals

Nollywood actor and filmmaker Kunle Afod has revealed a deeply emotional and humiliating moment in his career, sharing how his excitement turned into heartbreak after discovering that all his scenes were cut from a movie.

In a candid interview on his official YouTube channel, Kunle Afod spoke alongside fellow actor Apankufor, reflecting on what he described as one of the darkest periods of his professional journey. He recounted how he eagerly anticipated the premiere of the film, even going as far as purchasing cinema tickets for himself and a lady he was trying to impress—hoping she would see him shine on the big screen.

However, Afod was left shocked and devastated when, as the movie began to play, he realized that despite filming several scenes, his face was never shown. Instead, only brief shots of his hands or back appeared on screen. He said the camera had seemingly been directed away from his face throughout, making him nearly invisible in the final cut.

Embarrassed and heartbroken, the actor said he quietly left the theater before the end of the movie, unable to face the crowd or even the woman he had invited. He confessed that the incident brought him to tears and left a lasting emotional impact.

Afod used the painful experience to shed light on a common issue in the film industry. He explained that actors often blame producers when their scenes are removed, but in reality, editors usually make those decisions to reduce the film’s runtime. Unfortunately, some actors' performances are entirely cut, regardless of how much effort they put in.

“I bought tickets for a lady and myself. I was excited to see myself on screen. But from the first scene to the fourth, my face was never shown. Only parts of my body appeared. I left before the film ended. That day broke me—I cried,” he revealed.

Afod’s story has resonated with many fans and colleagues, with some praising his humility and others expressing sympathy for the emotional pain he endured.
