Popular Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe has won Best Supporting Actress at the 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) for her performance in the film Farmer’s Bride. The prestigious award ceremony was held at Eko Hotels & Suites in Lagos on Saturday night, drawing top names from across the entertainment industry.
Mercy Aigbe beat out strong contenders including Meg Otanwa, Tina Mba, Ireti Doyle, Ini Dima-Okojie, Omoni Oboli, and Darasimi Nadi to clinch the coveted award. In an emotional acceptance speech, she expressed deep gratitude for being recognized after more than 20 years in the movie industry.
“I feel so humbled. It’s such an incredible honour to get recognition for your work. I’ve been doing this for over twenty-something years and still get this recognition. To God be the glory,” she said. She also thanked Film One Studios, her director, the cast and crew, and the organizers of the AMVCA.
Just a day before her win, Mercy reflected on her first-ever AMVCA nomination, acknowledging the many nods she has received since then. Married to filmmaker Kazim Adeoti, the actress credited her longevity in the industry to consistency, authenticity, and the ability to reinvent herself, which she believes are essential to staying relevant in Nollywood.
