The family of Mrs. Rosemary Oromoni, mother of the late Sylvester Oromoni Jr., has announced her burial arrangements, months after her tragic death in November 2024.
According to the family, Mrs. Oromoni will be laid to rest on August 9, 2025, at her family compound in Warri, Delta State.
Her passing came three years after the painful death of her 12-year-old son, Sylvester, a Dowen College student whose death in November 2021 drew nationwide outrage and legal battles.
A Mother’s Pain and a National Tragedy
Mrs. Oromoni was said to have battled depression and high blood pressure, worsened by the prolonged legal fight over her son's controversial death.
Sylvester’s family alleged that he was bullied and forced to drink a harmful substance by senior students at Dowen College, Lagos, a claim the school denied, insisting he was injured while playing football.
The case attracted national attention, with conflicting autopsy reports adding to the controversy. While an initial autopsy suggested chemical poisoning, a later Lagos coroner’s inquest ruled that Sylvester died of natural causes resulting from sepsis. The students accused in the case were eventually cleared, and no one was held legally responsible.
The Oromoni family, deeply dissatisfied with the outcome, refused to bury Sylvester until January 2024, more than two years after his death. Sadly, just a few months later, Mrs. Oromoni passed away, leaving behind a grieving family and supporters still calling for justice.
Burial Details
Mrs. Oromoni’s funeral is scheduled for August 9, 2025, where she will be finally laid to rest alongside her son in Warri. Her death marks yet another painful chapter in a family’s long and public fight for justice and closure.
