Renowned Nollywood actress Kemi Ariyo, popularly known as Kemity, has opened up about the emotional pain that led her to walk away from her marriage.

In a heartfelt interview posted on the official YouTube channel of Biola Adebayo Ent on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, the Yoruba film star revealed that her ex-husband once told her a cleric warned him that he would never succeed in life unless he separated from her.

“I left my husband when he told me that a cleric said he won’t succeed in life if he’s with me. He didn’t know why I left him, but I’m sure he will find out now,” Kemity said during the interview.

The actress added that hearing such painful words from her spouse crushed her emotionally and made her question the foundation of their relationship. Rather than fight to stay in a marriage clouded by doubt, she chose to walk away and start over.

Kemity’s Story as a Single Mother

Kemity also shared her journey as a single mother of two children from different fathers, emphasizing that people often judge without knowing the full story.

She explained that her first love disvirgined her and got her pregnant. He later travelled to Malaysia in search of greener pastures, only to be tragically killed in a hotel upon his return to Nigeria, leaving her widowed at a young age.

“That was how I became a widow. People say I have kids with different men, but they don’t know the story. Even my mum gave all her children the same father. It wasn’t my plan,” she added.

A Message to Critics and Support for Single Mothers

In the emotional interview, Kemi offered prayers for single mothers, acknowledging their struggles and sacrifices. She strongly addressed critics who shame women for having children with different men, urging them to show compassion.

“To those of you who abuse people because they have kids with different fathers, that was not our plan. If it was our plan, let’s pray you go through what we went through.”
